Laura Linney's performance of weak and yet powerful characters has made her one of today's greatest American actors. Her father was a celebrated playwright, but she was raised as an all-only child with a single mother, a nurse. Through the summer months when she was with her father Linney discovered a love for the theatre. Her first stage experience was first in Brown University then at Juilliard School. Her Broadway career soon after completing her degree in the year 2000, before making her debut on television the following year. She has appeared in innumerable movies, television shows and stage productions since then. Throughout her professional career, she's received many awards, which includes the two Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards as well as three Academy Award nominations and five Tony Award nominations. However, despite all the awards, her passion for theatre remains constant, as she continues to perform both onscreen and onstage.
